BATBAND- Ear free headphones

Howdy!

Have you suffered from:
-attending to the world around you, when you’re wired?
-the rising insecurity due to not being able to listen to the outer world, when you’re wired?
-the accumulating frustration due to the dilemma between listening to your favorite songs and responding to the outer world, when you’re wired?

Wait, BATBAND could just solve this problem. With the help of the sleek Ear-free headphones, yeah that’s right- Ear-free, you can now listen to the chirping of birds and Eminem raps, at the same time. You can attend to the world around you while walking and driving, and also listen to the songs. This has been made possible by the Bone Conduction technology.

Why is it relevant to HCC?
Ear phones have been earning a reputation of a good accessory for a long time now. People use them to listen songs, attend calls and navigate when connected to the smart phones. BATBAND takes it even further by using the bone conduction technology, targeting the inner human ear for listening to sound. Since the product works around addressing the problem of dual listening (listening to music and the outer world) through a closely human centric approach, it fits very well in the category of Human Centered Computing.

Is it a user centered design? Why or why not?
The prominent elements of the BATBAND design viz. band-like design, swipe gestures and the the headphone-like listening could be evaluated as follows:
-People have been using colorful bands as a style statement and winter bands for protection during harsh cold
-Swipe gestures have been a norm due to the wide outreach of Android and Apple phones and
-Headphones are used by a wide audience for listening to songs, attending calls
Since BATBAND has incorporated these user accepted factors in its design, I believe the product is designed with a user-centered approach.

Suggested Improvements
-Availability of colors: The band should be made available in colors for users with different appearance preferences
-Voice control: Attending calls, playing and pausing music would be even easier using would voice control than performing the gesture every time.
